The Yarmouth Ice Club (YIC) was founded by Carolyn Kendrick and a group of interested parents in 1972 when the Cape Cod Coliseum was built in South Yarmouth, Massachusetts. Accepted as a full member of the United States Figure Skating Association in 1973, the Club immediately took an active roll in the advancement of figure skating on the local, regional, and national level. Within 5 years the Club was chosen to host the 1979 New England Figure Skating Championships, and subsequently was awarded the 1982 National Governing Council Meeting, the 1983 Eastern United States Figures Skating Championships, and the 2004 Northeast Region Championship competition. The club was a founding member of the Massachusetts Inter Club Council and a member of the New England Inter Club council. YIC also hosted the 2004 New England Regional Figure Skating Championships. The club developed a very strong competitive skating program and in 1979, Club representative, Wendy Lee Weston won her first of three Eastern United States Championships. She went on to become the Yarmouth Ice Club's first National and International competitor. Since that time many skaters including Todd Eldredge, |
