Phoebe Weston

The Yarmouth Ice Club Skaters Fund was established in memory of Phoebe E. Weston.  Phoebe was a pillar of the Yarmouth Ice Club from its beginning.  She gave endlessly of her time, knowledge and experience to the skaters of the Yarmouth Ice Club and New England.

Her dedication and commitment to the sport and its competitors was only measured by the tireless hours she gave to make the Yarmouth Ice Club’s annual competition, “The Cranberry Open” one of the most respected competitions in the United States.

After experiencing first hand with her daughter Wendy the high cost of national and international competition, her greatest wish was for the Yarmouth Ice Club to establish a fund to financially help competitive skaters achieve the highest level of competition possible.

With the untimely passing of Phoebe on January 18, 2005, the Weston family formed the Yarmouth Ice Club Skaters Fund in her memory and the following people have given donations.

2009 Recipient

Gail Hansen-Mayer

When Wendy Weston-Enzmann saw her name in nomination she immediately told her brother, David and dad Bob, Gail was the perfect person to be recognized for this award in memory of her mother. Gail’s commitment and dedication to the Synchronized Skating discipline is unmatched. Her relentless devotion even while facing trying personal obstacles has been deeply appreciated by the coaches, parents and members of the Hayden Synchronized Skating teams. Gail’s knowledge, leadership, and organizational skills have been the tools that have helped make the Haydenettes the best team in the history of United States Synchronized Team Skating.
In the tradition of Phoebe Weston, “it is always the person behind the scenes that make it all work”. They don’t care about getting credit, they’re only concern is making it happen. Through the years Gail has touched many young skaters, giving them a shoulder to cry on, and ear to listen and encouragement when discouraged. Her knowledge and experience has helped coaches, parents and skaters gain the assurance and confidence needed to carry on the great traditions of the Haydenettes.
The Yarmouth Ice Club and the Weston Family are thrilled to present this award to Gail and thank her for her dedication to skaters and her commitment to ice skating.
